Colorado Voters Pass Paid Family and Medical Leave!

About the coalition.

Why paid family and medical leave?

Almost 9 out of 10 Colorado workers have no paid family leave; meanwhile 26% have leave but it’s UNPAID.

Our state’s working families are being left behind: in today’s economy, the rich are getting richer while everyone else is getting squeezed.

At some point, nearly everyone needs time away from work to care for their family, themselves, or a new baby.

For most working people, it’s nearly impossible to take time off from work and lose that paycheck to be a caregiver.

Coloradans shouldn’t have to worry about losing their job if someone in their family loses their health.

“On November 3, 2020, Colorado made history as the ninth state in the country to pass Paid Family and Medical Leave into law and the first state to ever secure Paid Family and Medical Leave through a ballot initiative.

With this vote, Colorado has demonstrated for the rest of the nation that Paid Family and Medical Leave must be a part of our economic infrastructure and that, once again, the power of the people is an undeniable force.

This program will bring relief to 2.6 million workers and their families throughout Colorado and sets a precedent that family and medical care is a basic human right owed to everyone without strapping working families with enormous debts.” – 9to5 Colorado
