We Want to Hear from You: Paid Family and Medical Leave + Coronavirus

Now is the time for us to unite across our differences and make policy choices that help everyday people, not the richest 1% and a handful of corporations. As individuals, we can wash our hands, avoid unnecessary travel, and check in on our friends and neighbors. As a united force, we can demand our local, state, and national governments do everything possible to protect everyone’s health, no exceptions. We all benefit when we’re in this together.

If this global health emergency has exposed anything, it’s that we need strong safety nets to catch us in times of crisis. The coronavirus pandemic is demonstrating that without universal, publicly-run social safety nets, people are left behind in times of trouble.

Paid family and medical leave policies allow people to take time off from work, with some or all of their pay, to care for their own serious or chronic health condition, to care for a family member with a serious health condition, or to care for and bond with a new child, all without fear of losing their job. It’s more clear now than ever before why paid family and medical leave is one of the things we all need for our collective wellbeing.

The FAMLI Coalition, which has been advocating to bring this vital safety net program to Colorado for years, wants to hear from people all across our state about how your ability to access or not access paid leave in this time of crisis is impacting you and your family. Contact kaitlin@9to5.org and iwatson@workingfamilies.org with any questions.
